Allana College of Pharmacy A Constituent College under Dr P. A. Inamdar University

Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences

Continuing our series on Pune’s most favoured self-financed University, the PA Inamdar University’s Faculty of Pharma Sciences, one of India’s leading such facility in the matter of pharmacy and related subjects that has to its credit some of the most known and admired faculty, students and teaching infrastructure and which has given more than its share of eminent individuals who have done the institution proud with their work in the field.

As is the case with faculty and arms under Pune’s most admired self-financed University, the PA Inamdar University, things existed before the University came about in the year 1996. The Allana College of Pharmacy was established in 1996 under the MCE Society with financial donating by Late Mr. Abdul Razzak Allana and Late Mr. Hussain Allana and is dedicated to the memory of their parents, Late Haji J. H. A. Allana & Late Mrs. A. H. J. Allana. Located on the 24-acres of lush greens of the Azam Campus in the heart of Pune that abuts Pune’s most famous address the MG Road and opposite to the historically significant Golibar Maidaan, the Faculty of Pharma Sciences imparts education leading to a four-year Bachelor’s Degree in Pharmacy (B. Pharmacy), two-year Master’s Degree (M. Pharmacy) in Pharmaceutics and Pharmaceutical Quality Assurance. The faculty is also one of India most significant PhD Research Centres for Pharmaceutics. NBA has Re-accrediated the faculty’s B Pharmacy Program for the period of 3 years from June 2021-22 to June 2023-24).

The College, with its aim to be the best, irrespective of societal divisions of any denominations symbolizes in its thoughts and vision, the Bowl of Hygeia, the Mythological Goddess of Health of ancient Greece. Her bowl is representative of medicinal potion while the snake represents slow and assured healing. In a way, it also symbolizes that snake’s venom, otherwise something that kills instantly but when taken in the right quantities can heal and rejuvenate. In the present context, the snake for obvious reasons has been replaced by a twig of a medicinal plant that itself symbolized things including strength, naturalness and a sense of beauty.

The mission of the college is to be recognized as a premier pharmacy institution of academic excellence and to produce competent pharmacists catering to the needs of Industry, Academia, Research, and Society. The college has its vision set on being a center of excellence for education and research in the field of pharmaceutical sciences and to contribute its humble share to ensure the well-being while reducing the suffering of mankind.

Students who have attended classes and earned their respective qualifications from this institution vouch for the wholesome environment, teaching and training imparted by the college. To give a well-rounded education, the college organized various curricular and co-curricular activities despite which the mood on campus for most parts is sombre and quiet with classes having the latest teaching methodologies including e-boards. Teaching staff while being extremely competent are also very concerned about students and their well-being, especially those who need special attention. The curriculum under respective courses being contemporary, finding gainful employment is never an issue. To support education, and reading in particular, the faculty has one of the most admired and laid-out of libraries and reading facilities in Pune.
